The most annoying thing is that virtually every single car has that little arrow next to the gas gauge pointing to which side the gas cap is on. There’s no longer any reason to get it wrong even when it’s not your car.
The ‘lines’ at a ‘normal’ gas station are bi-directional. You can generally approach the pumps from either direction.
At Costco the line only goes one way. Since 62% of cars in this country have gas caps on the driver’s side, and people generally prefer to pull up on the ‘correct’ side, the lines which would position you on the left side of the pump will be slightly shorter. Some people are willing to go in the shorter line in exchange for having to stretch the hose across their car.
There’s a reason for everything.
Is someone filling up two gas tanks at once? I can’t see what you are referring to.
The cars on either side are having to drag the hose OVER their car because they pulled up to the wrong side!

that depends on definition of “wrong” and how much you want the gas NOW.
